If we cannot find another publisher for you game (see Gamee agent above) we will consider printing it ourselves. A game can be really good but still not be interesting to print for any traditional publisher. It might not fit release schedules, have expensive components, have a too small market or be too different in concept. Publishers generally want to publish games that appeal to as wide an audience as possible to maximize sales.
They also like to minimize risks, and every game that they buy a license for immediately starts to cost them money (salaries, art commisions, print costs), a long time before they receive any payment. Saying anything but an immediate no to publish a game means they take a risk.
Streamlining and adaptation for a wide audience is not always in the interest of the game designer, or in the interest of a narrow audience that likes a special type of game or are willing to test something very different.
If we think that we can publish the game we will make everything ready to print the game and set up a preorder system for it. Generally the quantity of the print that we aim for is 1000-1500 copies, but in some cases it might be possible with print runs down to 500 copies. If enough copies are preordered, we print and ship the game as fast as possible. We will not print any copies in addition to the preordered ones, except for a few to keep for spare parts and demonstrations at conventions. We will pay you 10% of the customer price in royalty. This will be paid immidiately, as all copies are sold immediately.
The customer price is the price for a single preordered copy, without shipping cost. Anyone who orders multiple copies will get discounts (because the handling costs decrease). A publisher, distributor or store thay orders 100 copies can have their logo on the box. If a translation exists and enough buyers want to include that translation, it will be included.
When we reprint existing games we use the same process with preorders.
