Issue 9: After Essen, new project with other publishers

Rustan's picture

We are back from yet another fun Essen. Several of the games on the website were presented to and picked up for publication by other publishers.

Some of our gaming highlights from the show:

Jaipur
A brief history of the World
Dungeon Lords
Fabrikmanager
Fzzzt!
Hansa Teutonica
Assyria
And the pile of 18xx games Pontus ordered a looong time ago :)

During a meeting a new idea was developed. We will make it possible for established publishers to upload finished games, without licensing them to us. Anyone interested in the game will be able to read it and print it out to test, and come with feedback. Most sought for comments here will be unclear wording and translation issues. If a serious problem with the game is found, it might help the publisher to abort and not invest a lot of money in the print. Each game will have a time during which it is available, and a deadline for comments before the game will go to print.

For members, the reason to help with this is the same as with other projects on the site, that the game is interesting and it is fun to help with the development and to see new games before they are released.

For publishers, more eyes checking the material before print to spot errors is very useful. There will be no cost for this beyond a normal developer account (€10 per year), but the catch is that there might not be any feedback at all if no member found the game interesting.
